    About the department

    Degree program

    The Department of Nutrition at Hung Kuang University, housed in College of Medicine and Nursing, is founded with the assistance of Institute of Biomedical Nutrition, and start enrolling students in August 2009. Differing from nutrition-related departments of other universities, our students have not only opportunity to become qualified dietitians; we offer academic programs which emphasize the community nutrition survey, and biochemical medicine. Our courses range from fundamental nutrition, fundamental medicine, biomedicine, health and biotechnology, and Community nutrition education in order to give students with interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills. Our faculty’s members consist of full-time and part-time staff, are experts in areas that includes specialist doctors, nutritionists, nurses, and professionals in health industry etc. We aim to strengthen interdisciplinary connections between nutrition, medicine, and other nursing related disciplines, creating excellent research and educational opportunities for our students.

    With theoretical and experiential learning, our students are trained to work in the fields of nutrition consultation, nutrition education, research fellow in medical and academic organisations, and staff member in related enterprises. They can also choose to continue their postgraduate studies in Institute of Biomedical Nutrition in Hung Kuang University or other university departments.

    Courses

    The philosophy of the Department of Nutrition states that the education of our students will best be served by offering three major divisions with variable emphases, including nutritionist, biomedical nutrition, community nutrition. Each division offers a set of courses that allows students to put together focused training programs.

    Students spend the first two years completing preparatory course work in the biological sciences and basic medicine, along with several art and language sciences. In the final two years, students take courses in different programs. The students in the nutritionist option take additional course work in food hygiene and safety, specific topics in nutrition, clinical practicum. Additional courses in biomedical nutrition including nutritional immunology, nutritional care in elderly, diagnosis in hemocytes, endocrinology, introduction to molecular oncology, bioinformatics etc. At the same time, students in the community nutrition option will take additional courses including nutrition and severe diseases, nutritional epidemiology, functional foods, aging and nutrition, nutrition and women care, and applied nutrition and chronic diseases etc

    Employers include: hospital, medical facilities, government agencies, schools & research laboratories, biotechnology firms, nutraceutical companies, and

    long-term health medical care.
